My name is Amanda. I am a wife, new mommy and former PreKindergarten teacher. I’ve been married to my best friend (Jesse) for almost 15 years and we just recently had our first baby (Brody). You should probably know from the start that we are obsessed with Disney and visiting Disneyland, AKA – Our Happy Place. With the birth of our son, I made the decision to start a new adventure by quitting my job to raise him. I have always enjoyed being around children and knew from a very young age that I would one day make a career out of it.
While pursuing a Multiple Subject teaching credential in 2007 I took a position as a PreKindergarten teacher at a private school in our city. Prior to this exposure I had always worked with and preferred to be around older children (1st-8th grade), so I never imagined that I had found my calling.
I was fortunate to have been placed with a phenomenal co-teacher, who I bonded with instantly (we’re good friends to this day) and learned a tremendous amount from. One year later I was given a classroom all to myself and that is when my passion took off!
I don’t claim to be an expert in child development but I have a lot of experience. It’s been awhile since earning my my BA in Liberal Studies, so I probably can’t name or recall most of the book and classroom learning from all those years ago. I’ve always believed that the best kind of education happens through hands on experiences. You can have all the head knowledge in the world but not know what you’re doing until you are actually doing it.
My vision for this site is to not only be an aid for materials and ideas, but a means to form an interactive community of like-minded individuals who work with, among and who are raising their own Little Ones. Send me your questions, add to or take away from my ideas – let’s collaborate together and build the resource we’ve always needed and wanted to use.
As the content on here grows, I envision it to contain multiple layers. Here you’ll find everything from thematic units, lesson plans, focused activities, teacher spotlights and entries from my own personal experiences – both from my teaching days and now as a first time Stay At Home Mommy.
